About BuckleUpLaws

What we do

BuckleUpLaws is a free reference tool that answers one question: what does your state legally require for child car seats? Select your state, enter your child’s age, weight, and height, and our checker tells you which restraint stage the law requires — along with the fine, the statute, and a link to the official state source.

How our data is verified

Every state’s law data was researched against official government sources only — state DMVs, departments of transportation, highway patrol agencies, and published statutes. Each state page lists its statute citation and links directly to the official source so you can verify everything yourself.

Where an official source doesn’t clearly state a requirement, we say so plainly instead of guessing. If we can’t verify a state’s current law, the page says that too.

What we’re not

BuckleUpLaws is an informational reference, not legal advice. Child passenger safety laws change, and only your state’s current statute, DMV, or highway safety office can give you a definitive answer. Always verify before making decisions about your child’s safety.

We are not affiliated with any government agency, car seat manufacturer, or law firm.
